Week of June 5 – 11, 2023

Triathlon Race Week

It is race week. You did all the work and on Sunday it is your time to shine. It is important to stay focused and get all the last minute details in order. Tapering, nutrition, mental preparation, pre-race strategy and equipment check should be your priorities.

Start getting ready two days before race day. Make sure you know the course layout so that you can plan an appropriate warmup routine. Pack your transition bags and make sure your nutrition is ready. Get an early night the night before, as a good sleep can help your performance on race day.

On race morning, wake up early and eat a light breakfast. Focus on what you need to do today and remember all of the hard work that you have put in leading up to this moment. Lay out all your equipment in an orderly fashion so that you can easily find what you need when transitioning.

Head to the race start and have a plan for how you will stick with your strategy no matter what is going on around you. Listen to any pre-race instructions from the race directors, and warm up if needed. When it’s time to line up for the start, keep your breathing steady and stay focused on the task at hand.

At the starting gun, race with all of your heart and soul. Push yourself to get the best out of yourself no matter what comes your way. Take in every moment that this amazing sport has to offer. Enjoy it!

Schedule

I do not get in till Tuesday morning. Therefore, Jeff will be leading the Tuesday morning session and I will be doing th rest of the week.

Coach’s note:

As many athletes have different races, i will be modifying the workouts this week based upon your race you are focusing on. We will be working on increasing your strength, power, and endurance so you can perform better in the race. This week, we are going to focus on Olympic lifts like squats and deadlifts. Additionally, I plan to incorporate a variety of exercises that focus on speed and agility. Finally, workouts will include intervals with lots of rest periods in between sets. This type of training will help you to maintain energy throughout the race and ensure that you are pushing yourself as much as possible. As always, recovery is an important part of training, so make sure to listen to your body and rest when needed. Good luck and I look forward to seeing your progress this week!
