Hurricane Season

It is the 4th of July!

Please review the schedule and the upcoming weather as we are about to be hit hard!

Hurricane Prep Checklist for Triathletes

When a hurricane is on the horizon, it’s crucial for triathletes to be properly prepared to ensure safety and maintain training momentum. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you stay on track and safe during the stormy weather this weekend.

Essential Items

  • Waterproof Bags
    • Keep your gear dry and organized with waterproof bags. This will help protect your equipment and clothing from getting soaked.
  • Non-Perishable Snacks
    • Stock up on high-energy, non-perishable snacks such as energy bars, nuts, and dried fruit. These will keep you fueled if the power goes out or if you need quick energy during indoor workouts.
  • Emergency Contact List
    • Ensure you have an updated list of emergency contacts. This list should include family, friends, and local emergency services.
  • Bike Trainer
    • A bike trainer is essential for maintaining your cycling regimen indoors. Make sure it’s set up and ready to use.
  • Nutrition for the Bike
    • Prepare your nutrition essentials specifically for indoor bike training, including hydration packs, gels, and electrolyte drinks.
  • Safety Tips
    • Mentally Prepare for Indoor Training
      • Accept that you will need to train indoors. This mental preparation will help you stay focused and motivated despite the stormy conditions.
    • Monitor Weather Updates
      • Stay informed by paying attention to the news and weather updates. This will help you make timely decisions about your training schedule and safety measures.
  • Training Adjustments
    • Invest in Resistance Bands
      • Resistance bands are versatile and perfect for indoor strength training. They can help you maintain muscle strength and flexibility when outdoor activities are not feasible.
    • Modify Your Training Schedule
      • Adapt your training routine to fit indoor activities. Focus on indoor cycling, treadmill running, strength training, and stretching exercises.
  • Stay Connected
    • Use technology to stay connected with your coach and fellow triathletes. Virtual training sessions can help keep you motivated and on track.

Preparation is key to staying safe and continuing your training during hurricane conditions. By following this checklist, you’ll be well-equipped to handle the storm while maintaining your triathlon regimen. Remember, safety first!

Stay prepared, stay safe, and keep training.

What’s your go-to pre-race meal that never fails to fuel you up and make you smile?

Fig newtons with peanut butter on top

Tell us about a hilarious race moment that still makes you laugh when you look back on it.

I forgot to remove one cycling glove during transition so ran with it…literally!

If you could create a new triathlon event combining three completely random activities, what would they be and why?

Doggy paddle, tricycle, skip instead of run. It would be fun to watch & lots of laughs.

Share a quirky habit or superstition you have before a race.

Carb deplete & carb load.

Describe your perfect post-race celebration in three words.

Sushi wine chocolate

If you were a superhero with triathlon powers, what would your name be and what abilities would you possess?

Captain Laugh Alittle: I would have the ability to make everyone while racing to smile & even laugh so they enjoy their race day better & everyone around them.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve seen while training for a triathlon?

While cycling, the guy in front of me got side swiped by a deer!

Invent a new triathlon gadget that would make training or racing more entertaining. What does it do?

A gadget that would speak to you to encourage your performance.

If you had to compete in a triathlon using only household items as equipment, what three items would you choose and how would you incorporate them into the race?

I’d convert a fan into a propeller so I swam faster, a bag of cotton balls as a chamois so the bike seat is more comfortable, & flip flops for the run cause us Floridians would be faster than our northern counterparts.

Lastly, share a motivational quote or funny mantra that keeps you going when the going gets tough.

Just keep swimming….just keep swimming…just keep swimming (Dory from Finding Nemo).
