Memorial Day Weekend

Hello Team,

Training in the Heat

It is getting HOT! Training in the summer heat requires extra caution and strategic planning to maintain optimal performance and health. Hydration should be a priority; athletes should start hydrating several hours before their training session and continue to sip water consistently throughout their workout. A good rule of thumb is to drink at least 16-20 ounces of fluid 2 hours before exercising, followed by 8 ounces every 15-20 minutes during the activity. Water alone might not suffice for longer or more intense training sessions, Incorporating electrolytes like Base Performance, which is a salt-based product, or Salis, which is a slow-release electrolyte tablet, can be beneficial. These supplements help replace essential minerals lost through sweat, such as sodium, potassium, and magnesium, thus preventing muscle cramps and maintaining electrolyte balance.

Post Training

Post-training recovery in the heat is equally crucial. After completing your session, hydrate with a combination of water and electrolyte-rich beverages to quickly replenish fluid and mineral levels. Consuming a balanced meal within two hours that includes both proteins and carbohydrates will assist in muscle recovery and glycogen replenishment. It is also advisable to include cooling strategies such as ice baths or cold showers to reduce body temperature and inflammation. Taking these steps can help mitigate the adverse effects of training in high temperatures, allowing athletes to maintain their performance levels and recover effectively.
