Athlete Highlight – Kim C.
What’s your go-to pre-race meal that never fails to fuel you up and make you smile?
Fish and rice

Tell us about a hilarious race moment that still makes you laugh when you look back on it.
It was during the Key West Triathlon and a group of us were doing it for fun and we rented beach cruisers and we may have been riding together chatting and this super competitive athlete didn’t understand the assignment of being in Key West comes by us yelling “on your left” and is doing her best to school us on drafting. Another Key West moment was when I had my actual tri bike and won my age group and the winners were given custom margarita glasses and our TriKW group shared a margarita and a couple of laughs with pro triathlete Chris “Macca” McCormac.
If you could create a new triathlon event combining three completely random activities, what would they be and why?
1- Hiking 2 – Boating 3- Imbibing

Share a quirky habit or superstition you have before a race.
I have always had a beer the night before a race, even an ironman. Helps get rid of some of the pre-race anxiety and helps me sleep. I remember seeing Hector in the grocery store the night before my first ironman and I had a 12 pack of beer. He wasn’t amused.
Describe your perfect post-race celebration in three words.
Camaraderie. Dinner. Drinks.
If you were a superhero with triathlon powers, what would your name be and what abilities would you possess?
“NIke” – the Greek goddess of victory, strength, and speed.
What’s the strangest thing you’ve seen while training for a triathlon?
People putting chamois cream on in private places while in public spaces.

If you had to compete in a triathlon using only household items as equipment, what three items would you choose and how would you incorporate them into the race?
Spatulas for swimming, a utility cart for the bike portion and you have to push it with your feet and hands) and a pogo stick for the run
Lastly, share a motivational quote or funny mantra that keeps you going when the going gets tough.
Hector is in my head saying “my grandmother is faster than you” and “you will die.” but in all seriousness I do want to make Hector proud. He pours a lot into his athletes and I’ve been around a long time (almost 20 years) so working hard and pushing hard to do my best feels like what I should do. Triathlon and our community fulfills as lot of buckets – fitness/exercise, social, emotional and spiritual (thankful for a strong mind and body to do this and for friends I’m lucky enough to do it with)
